MANGNANG, Dec 13: Seven houses along with four shops, a rice mill and a granary were gutted in a devastating fire that occurred at Mangnang village in East Siang district at around noon on Thursday.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
The fire engulfed the kaccha houses within no time. It burned down all household properties and valuable ornaments, and rendered seven families homeless.
However, no casualty occurred as most of the families were out in their paddy fields and orchards during the incident.
Fire tenders from Pasighat and Jonai in neighbouring Assam rushed to the spot and doused the fire, but it was too late to save anything of value.
Personnel from the Ruksin police station and local leaders visited the spot and took stock of the losses and damages. The actual losses and damages have not yet been assessed by the authority concerned.
The villagers of Mangnang have appealed the local administration to grant relief assistance. They also urged relatives and well-wishers to offer help to the affected families.
