ITANAGAR, Oct 16: Governor Dr. BD Mishra on Monday discussed various issues pertaining to improvement in telecommunications in Arunachal Pradesh with Union Minister of State for Communications Manoj Sinha at New Delhi.
The Governor drew the attention of the Minister on tardy progress of optical fibre cables laying works across the State and requested the minister to resolve all pending issues and direct RAlLTEL Corporation ltd. to expedite the work.
Highlighting the challenges in telecommunication network in the State due to its difficult terrain, the Governor said that providing internet connectivity in remote locations of Arunachal Pradesh is the need of the hour.
Lack of IT Connectivity is a big impediment for ensuring robust digital connectivity for GST implementation and also seamless flow of provisions of Government Services, he said.
With a view to mitigate the gap of IT connectivity in the State, as an interim measure, the Governor requested the Union Ministry for the required budgetary support for VSAT connectivity.
VSAT installation will facilitate effective and immediate linkage with the hinterland and would help mainstreaming of the population of rural and remote parts of the State with the rest of the country, the governor said.
He also requested the Minister to station Deputy Director General (IT) in the State as it would aid in expeditious implementation and monitoring of OFC projects and other Telecom Services in the State.
The Minister assured the Governor to review the ongoing projects and expedite those projects which are under process of implementation. (PRO to Raj Bhawan)
