OYAN, Dec 20: The second edition of the Siang Cup Football Tournament for girls concluded at the Donyi Polo Tea Estate (DPTE) football ground here in East Siang district on Thursday.
The finals were played by teams in the U-17 and U-14 categories.
Selle FC (B) won the U-17 title after defeating Boleng FC 5-3 in extra-time. Both teams had earlier stood 3-3 in regular time.
In the U-14 category, DPTE Sparrow won the final after beating Dony Polo Pame FC by 4-0.
Attending the valedictory function, All Manipur Mukna Association executive committee member KG Singh commended the initiative of the Donyi Polo Mission (DPM) and the organising committee for organising the football tournament for girls. He appealed to the people to take a cue from Manipur and nurture young sporting talents in the state.
DPM secretary H Sharma informed that a proposal would be sent to the state government, seeking its support to make the tournament bigger from next year onwards.
He expressed hope that “this small initiative will bring encouragement among the girl children of the district.”
Organising committee chairperson Mone Apang and overall in-charge T Paboh also addressed the gathering.
The tournament was organised by the DPM in collaboration with the Soccer Foundation of India.
Twelve teams from East Siang district took part in the two-day tournament. Arunachal Pradesh Football Association referees Oge Tali and Ashok Saring played their role in successful completion of the tournament.
