KAHO, Dec 21: The tourism department organised a community-based tourism (CBT) awareness programme for the villagers here in Anjaw district on Friday.
A team of resource persons from the HRD wing of the tourism department, headed by Assistant Director Bengia Manna Sonam, spoke on the benefits of rural tourism.
They informed the participants that the state has accorded priority to developing villages through rural tourism, and explained the need for training on homestay and “empowerment of women through homestays.”
A resource team comprising rural tourism advisor Raj Basu, Assam-based Nature’s Beacon’s director Soumyadeep Datta and local tour operator Ensang Manthaw also made an assessment of the tourism potential of the area.
CBT is a process for sustainable growth of villages, wherein the villagers host guests and involve them in rural and agro-tourism activities. Homestay hospitality is one of the core aspects of CBT.
