ITANAGAR, Jan 25: The All Arunachal Pradesh Border Students’ Union in a representation to the principal chief conservator of forests on Friday sought immediate ban on illegal quarrying/mining in the Seijosa forest range under the Khellong forest division, Bhalukpong.
“Despite clear-cut instruction and laid down guidelines for carrying out quarry activities which clearly states that collection of RBM should be allowed from approved quarry site without using any heavy machine, the companies involved in alleged mining have deployed heavy machineries to collect RBM. This is happening a few hundred metres from the office of the range forest officer, Seijosa, near the forest check gate in Lower Seijosa in Pakke-Kessang district,” the union alleged.
Also claiming that excessive logging in the area has resulted in frequent flashfloods and soil erosion, the union demanded suspension of all the staffers posted at the Seijosa range forest office to facilitate free and fair departmental investigation.
