RANI, Feb 1: Senior BJP leader Dr Tangor Tapak on Thursday distributed LPG connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) to the beneficiaries of Rani village in East Siang district.
More than 5000 households of East Siang, including 21 villages in Ruksin subdivision, have been covered under the scheme so far.
Highlighting the objectives of the scheme, Dr Tapak said it aims at empowering women and protecting their health by reducing serious health hazards associated with cooking based on fossil fuel.
“It is a major initiative to reduce indoor air pollution and a very positive step towards sustainable development as it not only reduces the burden on forests but also ensures right to life for women,” he said, and added that the state is implementing the PMUY in letter and spirit.
Dr Tapak also made the people aware of the benefits of other centrally sponsored schemes, and urged them to avail the benefits of those schemes for improving their socio-economic condition.
