KHONSA, Feb 10: Losar, the New Year festival of the Monpa and the Sherdukpen tribes, was celebrated here in Tirap district with zest and zeal on Saturday.
Deputy Commissioner PN Thungon, who was also the host of the festival, read out the mythology of Losar and the significance of its celebration. He wished for a year of peace and harmony for all.
Tirap Chiefs’ Council president Khamwang Lowang hailed the Monpas and the Sherdukpens “for their hardworking spirit and mild nature, which everyone should emulate.”
Traditional Losar dance performed by members of the two communities was one of the attractions of the celebration.
SP JK Meena, 16 Assam Rifles Commanding Officer Col Robin Kumar, chief of Bera village Bewang Lowang, Tirap Gaon Burahs Association president Tawang Wangsa, public leaders from Nocte and Tutsa communities, government employees and others attended the festival. (DIPRO)
