BOMDILA, Feb 22: The Bomdila Bar Association (BBA) has boycotted the court proceedings for both civil and criminal matters because of non-clearance of outstanding public prosecutor and state defence bills of the advocates of the additional district and sessions court here, which covers East Kameng, West Kameng and Tawang districts.
“The association had earlier approached the state government for early disbursement of long pending bills in respect of public prosecutors, and by then the outstanding bills were above Rs 40 lakhs,” BBA president Khamu Desisaw said.
He said that, “despite running from pillar to post for the bills,” the departments concerned have only cleared 30 percent of the earlier outstanding bills.
“Now the total outstanding bills, including earlier unpaid ones, are above Rs 40 lakhs for a period of seven days, from 22 February to 4 March, 2019,” Desisaw said.
He said 18 of the association’s members would first boycott the court proceedings for both civil and criminal matters, and then convene a meeting of the bar before deciding on their future course of action.
Meanwhile, BBA general secretary Atum Lamnio demanded immediate appointment of a regular public prosecutor.
