ITANAGAR, Mar 5: A central assistance of Rs 5.22 crore has been released to Arunachal Pradesh under the Flood Management Programme (FMP) for a single project of anti-erosion and flood protection in the Siang basin in East Siang district.
This was informed by Union MoS for Water Resource Arjun Ram Meghwal in a letter to MP Ninong Ering. Ering had written to the minister in October last year, informing him about various issues concerning the Siang river.
The minister also informed that 56 flood management works on the Brahmaputra in Assam were approved for central assistance under the FMP and Rs 574.19 crore has been released for these works upto 2017-18.
“FMP and river management activities and works related to border areas schemes have been merged into a single scheme titled Flood Management and Border Areas Programme (FMBAP) for a period of three years, from 2017-18 to 2019-20,” Meghwal said.
He also informed that the finance ministry during the meeting of the EFC held in March last year directed that no fresh projects under the proposed FMBAP should be included till committed liabilities of the already approved 11th and 12th Plan projects are cleared.
