Rahul to start Arunachal election campaign

ITANAGAR, Mar 14: All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit the state on 19 March to kick start the Congress’ election campaign in the state.
Speaking to this daily, Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Takam Sanjoy said that the party will announce the candidates before Rahul’s arrival.
Names for two seats to the Lok Sabha will be announced first, he said.
“Names for assembly elections in the 60-seat assembly constituencies will be announced in two phases,” he added.
According to reports, former minister Wanglet Lowangcha and All India Mahila Congress general secretary Jarjum Ete are vying for tickets to east and west Arunachal parliamentary constituencies, respectively.
Additionally, the AICC has reportedly asked all its former chief ministers and former ministers to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, and former chief minister Nabam Tuki’s name has come up for the Arunachal west parliamentary constituency.
Earlier, Sanjoy had said that the Congress in the state is looking to fill up all the 60 assembly and two parliamentary constituencies in the state.
He had also informed that the party will have a pre-poll alliance with the Peoples’ Party of Arunachal, and talks were on with the Janata Dal (Secular) for the same.
