PASIGHAT, Mar 22: Anganwadi workers and helpers, along with supervisors and gram sevikas of the Pasighat, Mebo and Ruksin ICDS projects, besides a large number of women and youths participated in a marathon here in East Siang district on Friday.
Titled ‘Matru Marathon’, the event was flagged off by DC Kinny Singh as part of the fortnight-long Poshan Pakhwada programme organised by the women & child development department to promote the importance of proper nutrition for better health and immunity, particularly among mothers.
The marathon marked the conclusion of the Poshan Pakhwada, which had begun on 8 March.
Among others, ICDS Deputy Director Ponung Ering Angu and CDPOs Onyok Panyang (Pasighat), Mailong T Moyong (Mebo) and Minam Taloh (Ruksin) were present during the flag-off.
Cintina Tasung and Bomdi Bam received the first and second prize, respectively, in the women’s category, and Jempor Pada and Samson Pogag won the first and second prize, respectively, in the men’s category.
The three ICDS projects celebrated Poshan Abhiyan with various activities, including a mothers’ meet, where mothers and girls were made aware of the need for nutrition and cleanliness.
Anaemia camps were also organized for on-the-spot haemoglobin tests by
a medical team. Weighing of pregnant women, poshan melas, and poshan rallies were also conducted as part of the programme. (DIPRO)
