PASIGHAT, Jun 10: A training programme on vermicomposting was organized by the Pasighat Municipal Council at the College of Horticulture and Forestry (CAU) here in East Siang district recently.
CAU Assistant Professor Dr AS Mailappa imparted the training, which included ways to deal with selection of place for composting, selection of worms, preparation methods, quantity for each crop, and the benefits of using vermicompost.
Sharing her views, Deputy Commissioner Kinny Singh emphasized on vermicomposting as an important component of organic farming, and termed earthworms or vermi worms “real friends of farmers.”
She expressed hope that good planning and efforts of officers and the public would transform East Siang into an organic district.
The DC instructed the administrative officers to conduct a survey on the utilization (sale or use) of chemical fertilizers, and to submit their reports at the earliest, so that appropriate steps could be taken up.
She also advocated segregating wastes and suggested keeping two dustbins at home or at source for the purpose. (DIPRO)
