NAMSAI, Jun 26: The District Urban Development Agency (DUDA) of Namsai conducted a meeting on effective implementation of Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules-2016 in Namsai urban areas here at the Town Club on Wednesday in compliance with the National Green Tribunal (NGT) orders.
Chairing the meeting of over 200 participants, Deputy Commissioner Dr Tapasya Raghav urged the people to segregate their waste at the source, and sought the initiative of giving out organic manure to the households that segregate their waste at source.
Raghav, who is also the DUDA chairperson, informed that the use of plastics is already banned in the district
DUDA EE cum member secretary Mosum Sema highlighted the importance of SWM in the district through a PowerPoint presentation and video clips of success stories on SWM at Leh, Ladakh.
Local MLA Chau Zingnu Namchoom urged the people to co-operate with the administration and the concerned department for proper implementation of the SWM Rule-2016.
Former IAS officer Tape Bagra also spoke on his experiences and the importance of waste segregation and its proper disposal.
Among others, the Namsai SP, administrative officers, bazaar committee members, traders of the town, NGOs and self help groups, besides officials of UD & Housing department attended the meeting.
