PASIGHAT, Jul 9: An ‘in-house badminton tournament’ organized by the East Siang Badminton Association was declared open at the town club here on Monday by Deputy Commissioner Kinny Singh.
Forty-eight players, including seniors, juniors and females, divided into six teams – Simyo, Takar, Situm, Sarok, Jaktum, and Eso – are participating in the tournament.
The inaugural ceremony was also attended by District Sports Officer Nada Apa, District Olympic Association president Tamat Gamoh, and senior officials.
In her address, the DC advised the players to play well, and urged boys and girls to participate in games and sports “for physical fitness and personality development.”
She said the Northeast, particularly Arunachal, has plenty of budding talents and potential in sports.
The tournament will conclude on 13 July. (DIPRO)
