ITANAGAR, Sep 17: The urban development & housing (UDH) department on Tuesday conducted a state level workshop on Angikaar – an awareness campaign for social behavioural change management for the beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) or PMAY (U) – at the DK memorial convention centre here.
The campaign was launched by union MoS for Housing & Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri, on 29 August in New Delhi. It emphasizes on embracing the best practices in water and energy conservation, waste management, health, tree plantation, sanitation and hygiene among the beneficiaries of the PMAY (U) through three basic steps: community mobilization, convergence, and IEC activities.
The nationwide campaign will be flagged off on 2 October (the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi) and conclude on 10 December (Human Rights Day).
Addressing the gathering of officers of the UDH department and experts from the state level and city level technical cells from all 33 urban towns of the state, UDH CE Taring Darang encouraged the PMAY (U) beneficiaries to “become part of the social change through convergence with other flagship programmes like Ayushman Bharat, Ujjwala scheme, Ujala scheme, etc.”
PMAY (U) state nodal officer Marcony Potom highlighted the role to be played by the officers of the state level and city level technical cells “in creating statewide awareness regarding Angikaar.”
Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY CEO Dr Tana Takum elaborated the Ayushman Bharat scheme and the CM Arogya Arunachal Yojana, and informed about the health insurance benefits that can be availed under the PMAY (U) “through inter-convergence of the programmes.”
Food & Civil Supplies Deputy Director Gautam Mibang highlighted the benefits of the Ujjwala scheme, under which LPG connections may be availed by the PMAY (U) beneficiaries.
He suggested that houses constructed under the PMAY (U) should be provided with counters/platforms for placing LPG stoves, “which will in turn encourage adoption of clean cooking fuels through the Ujjwala scheme.”
