NAHARLAGUN, Oct 21: Global Iodine Deficiency Disorder (IDD) Prevention Day was observed throughout the state on Monday with a host of activities carried out in different districts to create awareness on the importance of consuming iodized salt to prevent iodine deficiency disorders.
In Naharlagun, a seminar themed ‘A day with salt traders’ was organised, during which salt traders were advised to stock iodized salt packets in dry, covered places, away from moisture, and to sell only iodized salt to the consumers.
During the seminar, which was chaired by Health Services Director Dr M Lego, State Epidemiologist Dr L Jampa, Civil Supplies Deputy Director (DD) CW Chaklap, Food Safety DD UK Mitra, Food Safety Officer L Singpho, and IDD SPO PN Mazumdar spoke on matters related to different aspects of the National IDD Control Programme.
IDD Technical Assistant Tom Koyu and IDD SA Ngurang Takar also spoke. (DIPR)
