RAYANG, Nov 3: Students from 15 upper primary schools (UPS) under the Ruksin education block are participating in the three-day 4th Block Level Annual Sports Meet of the UPS’, which began here in East Siang district on Sunday.
Elementary Education Director Tapi Gao, who attended the opening ceremony, advised the students to take up sports activities along with their studies, stating that sports and co-curricular activities are indispensable parts of education.
“Games and sports are one of the state government’s thrust areas,” he said.
The government is encouraging sports by formulating various sportsperson-friendly programmes and policies, such as 10 percent job reservation in the police department, and five percent in other departments, for meritorious players, Gao said.
Niglok Sainik School Principal, Lt Cdr Amit Kumar Dutt, highlighted the importance of playing sports. He urged the parents and guardians to encourage their wards to take up games and sports activities sincerely.
BEO Tanyo Tapak, DIET lecturer Dui Gao, principals of various government higher secondary schools, GBs and public leaders of the area attended the inaugural function.
