ITANAGAR, 14 May: Expressing deep concern over non-adherence to procedures and wilful violations of existing rules and regulations by departments and individuals, Governor KT Parnaik emphasised that corruption not only weakens governance but also erodes public trust in institutions.
During a meeting with Lokayukta Chairman Prasanta Kumar Deka at the Lok Bhavan here on Thursday, the governor stated that maintaining integrity, honesty, and accountability in public service is essential for ensuring good governance and equitable development in the state.
The two held detailed discussions on issues relating to corruption, transparency, and accountability, and the need for effective investigation mechanisms in public administration.
The governor underscored the important role of the Lokayukta as an independent anti-corruption authority and ombudsman entrusted with safeguarding the interests of the people. He stressed that the institution must function with utmost fairness, transparency, and efficiency while ensuring impartial investigation into complaints and allegations.
Highlighting the expectations of the common people, Parnaik called for speedy investigation and timely redressal of public grievances, so that citizens receive justice without unnecessary delay. He observed that prompt action against misdeeds and maladministration would strengthen public confidence in the democratic system and encourage ethical conduct among public servants.
