Poppy fields destroyed in Changlang

CHANGLANG, Feb 15: Altogether eight plots of illegal poppy cultivation, measuring approximately 3.2 hectares and containing raw opium weighing approximately 1535 kgs, were destroyed in Sompoi, Longsang and Thamlom villages in Changlang district on 15 February.
The plots were destroyed during a drive carried out by joint teams of the district administration, the police, the IRBn, GBs, members of the mahila mandal, and others.
Two teams were constituted to carry out the drive in Diyun and Khimiyang circles.
The team for Diyun, led by Diyun EAC Jacob Tabing and Miao SDPO Tasi Darang, destroyed two plots of illegal poppy cultivation, measuring approximately 1918 sq mtrs, in Sompoi village. The team for Khimiyang, led by Changlang DSP T Tangha, Inspector CA Namchoom and others, destroyed two plots of illegal poppy cultivation, measuring approximately 1050 sq mtrs, in Longsang village, and four plots, measuring approximately 29,450 sq mtrs, in Thamlom village.
A case has been registered at the Diyun police station and two persons have been arrested, while two cases under the NDPS Act have been registered at the Khimiyang police against the poppy cultivators.
On 12 February, a team from Miao had destroyed around 450 sq mtrs of illegal poppy cultivation in Namphai-II and registered a case against the cultivator.
The operations were carried out under the command of Changlang DC RK Sharma and SP Mihin Gambo. (DIPRO)
