ITANAGAR, Apr 9: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) chief Nabam Tuki has asked the central and state governments to provide all essential and necessary services and not disrupt the food supply chain and the delivery of LPG cylinders during the lockdown period.
He also urged the government to increase the rate of screening and testing for Covid-19, “maximize treatment centres with all necessary facilities,” and upgrade district hospitals and community health centres to handle emergency cases of positive patients.
Tuki emphasized on providing adequate personal protection equipment to all the health workers on the frontline, and to the officers, police and volunteers who are on the ground.
The former chief minister also appealed to the people of the state not to panic but remain calm and continue to collectively fight Covid-19 by strictly observing the lockdown and following the instructions issued by the government and the precautionary guidelines of the health department.
Advising maintaining “excellent personal hygiene, washing hands regularly and practicing social distancing as long as required,” Tuki said the Covid-19 threat should be taken “very seriously.”
“We have already crossed over 5000 positive cases in our country. This situation may also push our already struggling economy off the cliff as the sheer scale of disruption from this pandemic is very huge,” he said.
Tuki said the coming few weeks may be very crucial in the fight against the coronavirus “as the onus is on us as responsible citizens to contain the virus by following all the necessary measures to bend the curve.”
