ITANAGAR, Aug 30: Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women Chairperson Mitali Tingkhatra called upon all the stakeholders to make concerted efforts to bring an end to the practice of child marriage.
The APSCW Chairperson was addressing the final leg of a series of legal awareness campaigns on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 and substance abuse at KV No-1at Naharlagun on Wednesday.
Tingkhatra also underscored the importance of educating the girl child to achieve women empowerment and extending them benefits of various schemes launched by the government for the girl child.
Resource Person Dr Kento Basar spoke on substance abuse and ill effects of drug abuse and alcoholism. He advised the students, especially youths, to abstain from such bad habits.
Child Welfare Committee Chairperson, Kani Nada Maling explained in detail about the POCSO Act, 2012 enacted by the government, especially for the welfare of children.
An interaction session was also conducted between students and the APSCW and Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR) team along with the resource persons.
APCSW and APSCPCR launched the awareness campaign on July 10 at Government Higher Secondary School, Itanagar and covered Donyi Polo Hearing Impaired School, Chimpu, Government Higher Secondary School, Ganga Village Itanagar, Government Secondary School, Pachin Colony, Naharlagun and Government Higher Secondary School, Kangkar Nallah, Naharlagun.
