ITANAGAR, Sep 18: A young school girl, identified as Apsana Talukdar died on spot when a speeding staff bus of the Horticulture Department hit a group of students at around 10 AM near Scholar’s Institute in Itanagar.
According to police sources, the deceased was a class nine student of Government Higher Secondary School, Itanagar.
Apsana died on spot, while another class nine student of the same school, identified as Manoj Burman, received grievous injuries and was rushed to Rama Krishna Mission Hospital.
Burman is currently out of danger and recuperating.
Reportedly, the bus carrying roughly 30 staff members was heading towards Gohpur Tinali when the accident occurred.
Eyewitnesses claimed that the driver, identified as Sunil Chaurasia was in a drunken state. However, the Itanagar unit police are investigating the case to ascertain the actual cause of the incident.
The driver has been taken into custody and a case has been registered at the Itanagar Police Station.
One of four siblings, Apsana lived with her family in P-Sector Itanagar and her parents run a small vegetable shop at Gandhi Market here.
