ITANAGAR, Sep 19: State Programme Officer of National Programme for Control of Blindness, Dr Taba Khanna has been conferred the ‘Eye Health Hero 2017’ award by the International Agency for Prevention of Blindness at Kathmandu on Monday.
The award was presented to Khanna for his untiring crusade against blindness in the remotest part of the country and for his surgical services and visionary leadership as program manager.
Under his leadership, there has been significant and visible improvement in the eye care services across the state.
The important achievement under his leadership was completion of situational analysis of eye care services in the state, accomplishment of Final State Action Plan in 2016, increasing the cataract surgery rate to Rs 3000, declaration of five villages as ‘Avoidable Blindness Free’ and close collaborations with local and international NGOs for delivering quality eye care services in the state.
