SANGRAM, Oct 1: Over 20, 000 fishes of various varieties were released into different locations of the Pach River on September 28 last during a fish rearing programme organised by the All Hillang Charitable Society (AHCS).
The Society hoped that this initiative would help spread the message of saving fishes and in turn also put a stop to their rampant killing through blasting, bleaching and electric shock methods.
Inaugurating the programme, Sangram SDO M Tato said that it was a bold step to save fishes and contribute to maintain the ecological balance.
AHCS Chairman Hillang Agung said that the AHCS would continue to release fishes every year so that their dwindling population could be increased, and also spread across other rivers.
