WAKRO, Oct 8: The Kamlang Tiger Reserve in Wakro celebrated the Wildlife Week from October 2 to 8 by including public participation to generate awareness on the wildlife and its protection.
Each day of the week was marked by different activities, which saw the participation of school students, villagers and the tiger reserve staff. Cleanliness drives were also held inside the tiger reserve area by the staff and villagers, followed by awareness meetings, and essay and drawing competitions.
Attending an awareness programme on the occasion, Zilla Parishad Chairperson and State Wildlife Board member Patam Rangmang advised the locals and staff members to cooperate with each other so that the wildlife and pristine forest of the area could be preserved and protected for posterity.
Highlighting the importance of Wildlife Week celebrations, Divisional Forest Officer Koj Tassar also requested the locals to extend their help in protecting the tigers, other predators and prey from outside influences.
Towards the end of the seven-day programme, solar lights were distributed among villagers, while winners of essay and drawing competitions were also awarded.
