BSF Commander attacked by cattle smugglers dies

KOLKATA, Oct 21: BSF Commander Dipak Kumar Mondal, who was brutally attacked by cattle smugglers along the India-Bangladesh border on October 16, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.
The second-in command rank officer was attacked when he was trying to stop smuggling attempt near Monarchowck under Sepai district around 100 km from Agartala, the capital of Tripura.
He was immediately admitted in ILS Hospital, Agartala and later evacuated to Kolkata due to critical injuries.
Mondal (47) has left behind his wife and two daughters.
The deceased’s wife, Sudeshna Mondal demanded a thorough investigation behind her husband’s ‘mysterious’ death at the private hospital.
BSF officials assured the bereaved family that a proper investigation would be conducted soon.
The body was sent for post mortem to the Nilratan Sirkar Medical College and Hospital.
Meanwhile, elder brother of the deceased, Dilip Mondal told this correspondent that the BSF officials did not inform the relatives in detail about the incident before his death.
The relatives did not rule out possibility of callousness and indifferent attitude on part of a section of BSF officials.
When contacted, the senior BSF officials refused to make any comment.
The relatives of the deceased have decided that they will inform Governor of Tripura Tathagata Roy and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar for justice and unravel the truth.
