Horticulture review meeting
ITANAGAR, Oct 26: Addressing the midterm review meeting of the Department of Horticulture at Itanagar on October 25, Punji Mara, Parliamentary Secretary (Horticulture) advised the officers to train the field staff and engage them properly for field works.
He further advised the department officers to supervise and monitor the implementation of schemes and projects sincerely to avoid public complaints. He also expressed that providing decent accommodation and conveyance to officers is important to boost the morale of officers and to enhance work efficiency and advised the department authorities to take up the issue in right earnest.
Secretary Mimum Tayeng emphasized that horticulture should be taken up on business model based on marketability of produce and that the extension, the marketing and the Research & Development wings should perform as one unit.
She also stressed upon the need to provide certified and disease free planting materials to farmers to avoid introduction and spread of pests and diseases.
Keeping in mind the Government vision of doubling farmers income by 2022, she further exhorted the department to work in tandem for welfare of farmers.
Training on HORTNET, geotagging and use of other useful computer applications was held during two days meeting which was attended by officers from the districts and the Directorate of Horticulture.
