ITANAGAR Oct 31: The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee observed the 33rd Martyrdom Day of former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi as “National Unity Day” (Rashtriya Ekta Diwas) at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan here on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, APCC president, Takam Sanjoy remembered the sacrifices made by Indira Gandhi for the unity and integrity of the country. He said that Indira Gandhi was never known to flee from challenges and took up radical steps for national peace and communal harmony as Prime Minister.
Describing Indira Gandhi as an inspiration for the people, especially women, he appealed to the party men and women to take a pledge to follow her values and ideals and spread the message of communal harmony, unity and integrity.
Earlier, APCC president Takam Sanjoy, PCC office bearers, party workers of frontal organizations of the Congress paid floral tribute to the portrait of Indira Gandhi. Two minutes silence was also observed as a mark of respect, and a short video on the life history of Indira Gandhi was screened on the occasion.
Similarly, Arunachal Pradesh Congress Seva Dal also observed the Martyrdom Day of former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi as “National Unity Day” at Indira Gandhi Congress Bhawan, Naharlagun.
City and district office bearers of APCSD and Pradesh office bearers paid floral tribute to the portrait of Indira Gandhi on the occasion.
While recalling the contributions of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, APCSD Chief Organiser Kipa Kaha said she always kept the country’s interest in mind and believed in socialism and secularism and wanted to make the world free from hatred and violence.
