YUPIA, Nov 2: Hayuliang, Brokenthang and Huri teams have defeated Anini, Thrizion and TCC village teams respectively in their respective segments in the final phase of the ‘D G Pachnanda Cup’ tournament played at Yupia on Thursday.
The winning teams walked away with a cash prize of Rs 20,000 along with a trophy, while the runner up teams bagged Rs 10,000 each.
The tournament was organized by the ITBP under its Civic Action Programme to provide a platform for the talented football players from far-flung border villages of the state to showcase their talents.
Addressing the gathering at the closing ceremony of the tournament, ITBP IG (NE FTR HQ) M S Rawat applauded the youth and public for their support in organizing the tournament envisaged by R K Pachnanda, DG ITB Police Force, to promote the harmonious bond shared by the people of Arunachal with the ITBP.
Rawat also congratulated the players for their active participation to make the tournament a grand success.
The first phase of this tournament was organized at various Border Out Posts of the ITBP from September 27 to October 9 for 72 border villages of the state and top nine teams (3 representing each sector) moved into the second phase, which was played from October 10 to 15. Finally, six teams qualified for third and final phase of the tournament.
Among others, senior ITBP officers, including DIG S K Sharma, DIG Nirbhai Singh, DIG G C Upadhyay and Commandant P N Prasad were present on the occasion.
