BASAR, Nov 5: Chief Minister Pema Khandu informed that all sports stadium funded under SPA, whose funding stopped due to discontinuation of the scheme, will now be funded by the state government.
He said this during the inaugural programme of the Gumin Rego Kilaju (GRK) Football Academy at the Todak Basar Memorial Stadium on Sunday.
Addressing the issue of sports infrastructure in the state, the Chief Minister informed that he had asked the Union Sports Ministry for sports stadiums and asked the respective districts to submit proposals for it.
He further informed that to hone the skills of youths in sports, the state government will also try to meet up requirement of coaches. Appreciating the steps taken by the GRK in opening a football academy, the Chief Minister assured support from the state government and contributed Rs 10 lakhs from his personal means.
He felicitated Kojum Taba in recognition of his outstanding achievements in weightlifting. He also facilitated body builder Paklu Taipodia and arm wrestler Pakjar Taipodia.
Earlier, an exhibition match was played in the stadium between CM XI and GRK XI where the latter won by one goal.
