YACHULI, Nov 7: After 19 long years since its foundation stone was laid, Chief Minister Pema Khandu has inaugurated the much awaited Divisional Commissioner (West) headquarters at Yachuli on Tuesday.
With this, the first major initiative of the Pema-led Government turned into reality.
Addressing the people on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that his government is committed to decentralize administration and bring it to the doorsteps of the people. After making functional both the divisional commissioner headquarters – East and West, he said other divisional offices like that of PHED, PWD, etc would be shifted to their respective divisions.
Pema lauded the people of Yachuli for donating land for the Divisional Commissioner’s Office of 4 sq kms and requested for another 2 sq kms in the periphery for future expansion of the headquarters.
Pema also assured to provide sufficient fund for construction of a permanent divisional commissioner office, DIGP office, quarters and other infrastructure.
The Chief Minister also urged the people to revisit their take on hydro power development in the state. He said Arunachal Pradesh can become self reliant only when it uses judiciously the abundant natural resources at its disposal like hydro-power.
“We cannot afford to remain a beggar state forever. We should aim to become a donor state and that can happen only when we judiciously harness our hydro potential,” he said.
He also called for brainstorming sessions on revenue generations from resources like hydropower and tourism potentials in the state.
Town Planning and Urban Development Minister, Nabam Rebia called for planned development keeping intact the delicate balance between development activities and nature.
Chief Secretary, Satya Gopal dealt informed about the powers and functions of the Divisional Commissioner.
Yachuli legislator, Likha Saaya while expressing deep sense of gratitude to the Chief Minister and his cabinet members for gifting Yachulians the Divisional Commissioner said,” Our Chief Minister Pema Khandu has become the architect of a fast developing Arunachal Pradesh today. The establishment of Divisional Commissioner in Yachuli is his endeavour for an inclusive development. The capital centric work culture will be abolished and the governance will be brought closer to common men after the inauguration of the divisional commissioner.”
There is no dearth of land in Yachuli and we are ready to donate more land freely for other development activities in this area,” he added while appealing for establishment of a commercial airport in Yachuli.
While appealing for establishment of a Horticulture college in Yachuli he said “Yachuli is the horticulture hub of Lower Subansiri and an establishment of a Horticulture college will encourage the farmers and technically improve their farming activities.”
He further appealed to the government for a nursing college.
Provisional Land Possessing Certificates for plots in Yachuli were handed over to all legislators of the 33 assembly constituencies who fall within the jurisdiction of the West Divisional office. This plot will be utilized for construction of assets like guest houses for the respective constituencies.
The inauguration and public meeting was also attended by Deputy Speaker Tumke Bagra, legislators Mama Natung, Tapuk Taku, Dikto Yekar, Markio Tado, Takam Pario, Karya Bagang, Pani Taram, Jarkar Gamlin, Punji Mara and Tage Taki besides Divisional Commissioner West Gamli Padu, DGP, DIGP and others.
