Temporary traffic restrictions on BCT road

ITANAGAR, Nov 10: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has restricted movement of vehicles in Balipara-Charduar-Tawang (BCT) road temporarily due to construction activities in the stretch between 50 km and 116 km.
In a press release, Project Vartak urged the commuters to use the newly constructed double lane Orang (Assam)-Kalaktang-Shergaon-Rupa-Tenga Road (OKSRT) to reach Tenga and further to Tawang instead of BCT road where constructions works are on.
The BCT road has been playing a pivotal role in providing connectivity to Tawang and other far flung frontier areas in the state of Arunachal Pradesh over the last 40 years.
Owing to manifold increase in traffic volume, the government has decided to ease the situation by improving the specifications of the road from existing single lane to double lane and develop an additional axis originating from Orang towards Tawang via Kalaktang-Shergaon-Rupa-Tenga.
The BRO said that the use of OKSRT axis till Tenga reduces the travel distance and time for the travelers originating between Guwahati and Tawang.
Use of OKSRT axis in full by local populace would further facilitate Project Vartak to mobilize more resources and open additional construction sites on road BCT which would further facilitate in early completion of double lanning of remaining portion of BCT road, the release said. (PTI)
