BORDUMSA, Nov 26: Following alleged custodial death of an Assamese youth on Saturday morning under Diyun police custody in Changlang district, tension gripped Bordumsa on the Assam side.
Several student bodies of Assam representing Gorkha, Sonowal Kachari, Adivasi and Deori communities, besides All Assam Students Union protested by burning tyres in front of the Arunachal police check post in Bordumsa.
Terming the death as ‘ruthless and barbaric’, the student bodies demanded a high level judicial probe into the alleged custodial death.
A resident of Kujupather village of Bordumsa in Tinsukia district, Diganta Sailia was involved in a series of motorcycle theft cases in Diyun and adjoining areas. He had surrendered before the Assam Police at Bordumsa and was later handed over to the Arunachal Pradesh Police and simultaneously shifted to Diyun.
Meanwhile, the police and civil administration of both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh held talks to bring the situation under control.
The authorities in Diyun could not be contacted by this daily to ascertain the actual cause of death.
