ITANAGAR, Dec 6: Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) across the state celebrated World Soil Day on December 5 to generate public awareness on the importance of healthy soil and sustainable management of soil resources.
The KVK in Namsai organized an awareness meeting for farmers at Kaisu village. Parliamentary Secretary (Planning), Chow Zingnu Namchoom attended the meet to motivate the farmers.
He encouraged the farming community to take up diversified farming activities, and advised them to avail training provided by the KVKs from time to time.
KVK In-charge, Dr Debasis Sasmal encouraged them to develop integrated farming activities and follow the soil health card recommendations for higher production.
Deputy Commissioner RK Sharma, panchayat leaders, and agriculture and horticulture officials of the district attended the celebration.
A similar programme was organised by the Lower Subansiri KVK at Jath, in Yachuli.
The programme was inaugurated by Yachuli Anchal Chairperson Joram Elyu and attended by resource persons Amjad Khan and Alok Sahu from NRLM. Soil science specialist Dr Hage Munth highlighted the reasons of soil health degradation and its sustainable management.
The programme was attended by progressive farmers from various farmers’ clubs.
