PIL filed over greenfield airport issue

ITANAGAR, Dec 7: The Itanagar Permanent Bench of the Gauhati High Court on Wednesday last admitted a public interest litigation filed by social activist Payi Gyadi, seeking the court’s direction to the respondents, particularly the Union of India, to expedite the construction of the greenfield airport at Hollongi.
The PIL states that the respondents, ‘particularly the Union of India and authorities, are unnecessarily delaying the construction of the airport.’
It claims that the state does not have civil aviation, and the people depend on road communication of its neighbouring state.
Though the Union of India has invested over Rs 1500 crore on various airport projects, it has been unfair to the state while investing in airport construction in Arunachal Pradesh, it says.
‘Delaying the construction of the greenfield airport is unjust and denial of benefit availed to the state. Despite the fact that all land acquisition process has been completed, the Union of India and authorities are unnecessarily convening meeting after meeting without any success,’ claimed Gadi in the PIL.
