ZIRO, Dec 16: Students of Hao Polyang Academy here in Lower Subansiri district benefited from an awareness programme on ‘drug abuse and tobacco substances’ organised at the school by the local unit of the Indo Global Social Service Society on Friday.
During the programme, the National Tobacco Control Programme’s district consultant, Tamchi Yabi, made a PowerPoint presentation on the types of cancer caused by tobacco consumption, and enumerated the harmful effects of consuming drugs and tobacco.
She also spoke about the harm caused by passive smoking, and informed that sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products within a 100-yard radius of any educational institution is prohibited under Section 6(b) of the COTP Act.
Psychologist Hage Sunka and social worker Habung Rinya were the other resource persons.
