APSCW urges students to fight against child marriage

BALIJAN, Dec 21: Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) Chairperson, Mitali Tingkhatra, has urged students to fight against child marriage and child labour.
She was addressing students and teachers at a legal awareness programme on ‘Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, and sexual harassment at workplace’ at the government higher secondary school here in Papum Pare district on Thursday.
Highlighting sexual harassment of women at workplace, she appealed to the school’s authority to form an internal committee to prevent sexual harassment and to give justice to aggrieved employees.
Tingkhatra spoke about the Child Line, the Women Helpline, the POCSO Act, and child labour, and exhorted the students to gain knowledge about their legal rights.
APSCW Vice Chairperson, Nabam Yabang, highlighted the salient features, powers and functions of the commission, while the commission’s legal advisor, Yade Jeram, spoke in detail about the POCSO Act.
