ITANAGAR, Dec 22: Though late, the Arunachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board (APSPCB) has collected water samples from the polluted Siang river in East Siang district.
APSPCB Chairman Techi Tagi Tara, accompanied by a team of scientists and engineers, on Thursday visited Pasighat and collected water samples, which have been sent to Guwahati for testing.
The testing will be conducted by a laboratory accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories.
Tara also met the East Siang deputy commissioner and discussed the likely reasons behind the contamination of the Siang, and other pollution-related issues.
He urged the DC to direct the owners of industries and factories in the district to obtain the APSPCB’s consent before setting up industries, “so that the prescribed environmental norms followed by those industries or factories can be monitored properly.”
Tara informed the DC that several cases relating to non-compliance of environmental guidelines by various industries and factories are still pending in the court of the Kolkata-based eastern zone bench of the National Green Tribunal.
