ITANAGAR, Jan 6: Gauhati High Court Judge, Justice Ajit Borthakur, inaugurated a legal assistance establishment office in the compound of the Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA) here on Saturday.
The establishment will cater to the needs of legal assistance. It will also make available records of various schemes of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the central and state governments, and provide facilities such as a toll-free helpline number: 18003453153.
Justice Borthakur launched the website – www.apslsa.org – in the presence of a large number of legal service personnel.
Borthakur suggested that the APSLSA consider opening legal aid clinics in villages where the people are not aware of their legal rights. He advised APSLSA members to conduct periodic meetings with GBs and HGBs to make them aware of their rights and duties in accordance with modern law.
Justice Borthakur also advocated translating court judgments in order to help villagers understand court orders and judgments.
One of the features of the website includes the facility of e-Application through which one may seek legal advice. The website also contains various brochures on legal rights published by the APSLSA.
APSLSA Member Secretary Budi Habung highlighted the working of the APSLSA and its role in providing access to justice.
Among others, Registrar, Gauhati High Court Itanagar Permanent Bench, Nani Grayu, Law & Judicial Deputy Secretary Dani Belo and Yupia CJM Tadu Tamang were present on the occasion.
