ITANAGAR, Jan 7: The Arunachal Civil Society (ACS) has urged Chief Minister Pema Khandu and his cabinet colleagues to accord topmost priority to the greenfield airport project at Hollongi.
While welcoming the recent move of the CM to seek support from Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for early start of work, the ACS urged the state government to act without further delay and start work at the earliest.
‘The greenfield airport at Hollongi is not a demand of a particular section of people, but it is the dream of the people of the state. Due to some unions and associations with vested interests, the prestigious project is yet to start despite repeated expression of concern by the civil aviation ministry,’ the ACS stated in a release on Sunday.
‘Even the Gauhati high court and technical experts from the Airports Authority of India have already declared Hollongi as the best site for constructing the airport,’ it said, adding that the airport would provide relief to the people, ‘especially when troubles mount in the neighbouring states,’ besides boosting the state’s economy and leading to growth in tourist inflow.
