ZEMITHANG, Jan 15: A one-month skill development training programme on the dying Buddhist art of ‘handmade paper making’ was inaugurated here on Monday by Lumla ADC RD Thungon.
Sponsored by the Department of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, the ancient Buddhist art was given a boost with the training of 30 persons from Zemithang circle under Tawang district.
Locally produced handmade papers are mainly used in religious scriptures and paintings, besides other usage.
The primary raw material consists of wood pulp from a particular flowering tree available at high-region cold temperate forests.
The ADC advised the trainees to use the opportunity in getting trained and skilled to revive this ancient dying Buddhist art for the future generations to learn and imbibe.
The Tawang DIC deputy director, the Lumla and Zemithang circle officers, the Lumla ZPM, public and trainees were present on the occasion.
