YINGKIONG, Jan 21: The Upper Siang district unit of the Arunachal Vikas Parishad (AVP) celebrated its silver jubilee with great enthusiasm here on 15 January.
Addressing the gathering, Headmistress of the government secondary school, Parsing, Odi Kombo Miyu exhorted the community members to preserve their own culture and tradition.
“We should not neglect our age-old culture in the midst of modernization,” she said.
Upper Siang AVP General Secretary Kapong Miyu explained the aim and objectives of the celebration, while AVP’s Pasighat Vibhag Organizing Secretary Taken Payum gave a brief report of its activities in Upper Siang. He also suggested to the young generation to contribute their energy for the development of society.
The programme included block-wise cultural competition and presidential speech by AVP Upper Siang unit president Likeng Libang. Around 165 AVP members and believers of Donyi Poloism attended the programme.
