ITANAGAR, Jan 28: Arunachal Colts opened their campaign at the Junior Boys (U-19) National Football Championship for BC Roy Trophy on a winning note with a 1-0 victory over Telangana at Una, Himachal Pradesh, on Sunday.
Tagru James (Jam) scored the all-important goal of the match.
Very happy with the team’s performance, head coach Kipa Bharat said, “I am very pleased with the way our boys played today, and I hope we will continue the winning run in our next match also.”
The team will face Gujarat in their second group match on 30 January.
The state’s senior women football team is also taking part in the National Football Championships being held in Odisha, informed Arunachal Pradesh Football Association (APFA) general secretary Kipa Ajay.
Meanwhile, Ajoy informed that at the invitation of the APFA, a team of officials from the Tata Football Academy, Jamshedpur, will be arriving here next month on a talent hunt. They will conduct trials at the Rajiv Gandhi stadium on 13 February from 7.30 am onwards.
Players born in between 2000 and 2002 will be eligible to attend the selection trials, Ajoy said, and appealed to the young players of the state to attend the selection trial.
