Two ultras killed in Jairampur

JAIRAMPUR, Feb 1: Two CorCom militants were killed in a coordinated operation launched by the Assam Rifles and the Army in the early hours of Thursday morning here in Changlang district.
The security forces launched the operation based on an intelligence report on the presence of the militants in Shankapani area. The slain ultras were identified as self-styled private Moniram of ULFA (I) and self-styled corporal Hera Singh of the CorCom.
The security forces warned the terrorists to surrender, after learning that a few civilians were also present in the house where the ultras were holed up. However, the terrorists opened fire at the security forces, and they were neutralized in retaliation, the Kohima-based defence PRO informed.
A 9 mm Austrian-made Glock pistol and a 9 mm Berreta pistol, along with ammunition and Chinese grenades were recovered from the possession of the slain terrorists.
‘Sources said the slain ultras had been involved in the recent attack on an Army convoy near Namsai on 25 January,’ the defence PRO stated in a release.
