Anjaw on brink of malaria elimination

HAWAI, Feb 19: Anjaw is on the brink of eliminating malaria as the district has recorded a drastic reduction in incidences of the disease in the last five years, said District Vector Borne Disease Control Programme Officer Dr S Tayang.
“Anjaw would probably be the first district to be declared a malaria free zone in the state, if we go by the disease trend, which has drastically reduced in the past five years,” said Dr Tayang before the start of a short marathon race here on 19 February.
The mini marathon, themed ‘Run for health’ and ‘Say no to malaria’, was organized as part of the Statehood Day celebration, and to create health awareness among the public here.
The short-distance race, which started at the Kalikho Pul Memorial District Hospital premises, was flagged off by Hayuliang ADC K Jillen, in the presence of DMO Dr K Perme.
People from all walks of life participated in the race.
Anita Tabi (37:41 mins) and Totitso Manyu (28:30 mins) won the race in the women’s and men’s category respectively.
