ITANAGAR, Mar 4: As the protest at the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) entered its sixth day on Sunday, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has resorted to go ahead with its state-wide shutdown in higher level educational institutes (colleges and universities) on 5 March.
A “fed up” AAPSU on Saturday had announced its first phase of agitation against the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).
The closure of all the colleges and universities within the state has been called in aid of the protesting students of the NERIST.
Students at NERIST have been demanding for appointment of a full-time director.
With clamour and tenacity, over 2000 students of the institute have taken to passive resistance. The movement at NERIST got a major boost with all student-based organizations supporting their movement.
AAPSU’s vice president (Admin) Meje Taku on Sunday appealed to the authorities of all the colleges and varsities to extend their cooperation for the strike as the protest that begun at NERIST is no longer confined to it, but has become an issue that concerns the reputation of the state.
Taku has also urged the district-based student bodies and institute-based student leaders to observe a peaceful strike.
