Develop Arunachal as organic state: AAFS

RUKSIN, Mar 12: The All Abotani Farmer Society (AAFS), an association of the farmers and cultivators, has demanded that the state government formulate an effective policy to make Arunachal an organic state.
The society functionaries lamented that even after mass mobilization and training organized by various organizations, the ‘Organic Arunachal’ plan remains a pious dream so far.
The AAFS members alleged that, state’s policy indirectly encourages the commercial horticulturists to use chemical fertilizers and pesticides in large scale in their crop fields, which is causing serious hazard to community health.
The society has appealed to all social organizations to come forward to intensify the ‘Organic Arunachal’ movement and discourage use of chemicals in crop fields of the state.
The AAFS, led by progressive farmers- Tagemang Tatak and Ramyek Melong on Monday submitted a representation to the chief minister through the East Siang deputy commissioner and sought his strong initiative to declare the frontier state ‘Organic State’ in the style of Sikkim.
They also urged the government to impose ban on use of chemicals for production of edible crops, fruits and vegetables.
