Security forces nab NSCN militant, over ground workers

LONGDING, Mar 13: The Longding battalion of the security forces apprehended two female over-ground workers of NSCN (K) from Niausa village during a mobile checking on 8 March.
Identified as Nauki Jugli and Jamna Lowang, the duo was in possession of Rs 1.2 lakh and four mobile phones, according to Kohima based defence PRO Col C Konwer.
Nauki Jugli, a resident of New Shallang village of Changlang district is the wife of self styled Revenue Secretary Pholai Ponglaham, also known as Folay of Rusa village under Longding district, the release said.
It was revealed during police interrogation that the cash recovered from their possession was extortion money collected from people of Rangluwa village, said Col Konwer.
Meanwhile, the Assam Rifles under Dao Division apprehended a self styled corporal, identified as Wangphe Wangsa of NSCN (IM) from Nginu village of Longding district during an operation on 12 March.
The cadre was nabbed with a 9 mm pistol and ammunition.
“He was an active member of the NSCN (IM) group and involved in numerous heinous crimes like sending demand letters, kidnapping and extortion activities in the area,” Col Konwer said in another release.
