APSPCB issues closure order to defaulting industries

ITANAGAR, Mar 20: The Arunachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board (APSPCB) has issued closure orders under section 33-A of Water and Section 31-A of Air Act, 1981 to several industries operating without valid consent and without consent, within the territory of Arunachal Pradesh.
This was done in order to regulate the Water (Prevention & Control of Pollution) 1974, Air (Prevention &Control of Pollution) 1981 and Environment (Protection) Act 1986.
The industries include the hotel industry, stone crushers and other industries covered under consent management procedures for non compliance and violation of relevant sections of the Water Act 1974, Air Act 1981 and EPA 1986.
Taking serious note on the matter, the board in its notice has requested the deputy commissioners to ensure the sealing of industries.
It further instructed the departments concerned-the Power and Public Health & Engineering departments – to disconnect power and water supply till consent orders (permission) are obtained from the office of the APSPCB.
“Non-compliance of the order of closure shall be treated as contravention of mandated orders of the Supreme Court of India and National Green tribunal and the matter shall be brought to the notice of appropriate authorities for further course of action”, a communiqué from the board said.
