CBI inquiry sought into Toko Yame’s death

ITANAGAR, Mar 21: The Kitchang Welfare Society (KWS) in a letter to the chief minister requested handing over the alleged murder case of Toko Yame to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for speedy investigation within this month.
This came after the Special Investigation Team (SIT), set up to investigate the case, failed to deliver results even after five months since the incident, the society said in a press communiqué on Wednesday.
The 15 days ultimatum to solve the case by the All East Kameng District Students’ Union (AEKDSU) on 5 January, 2018 also failed to deliver any result, it said.
The KWS and AEKDSU warned of a democratic movement or economic blockade and non-cooperation movement if the authorities do not meet with their demands within the stipulated timeframe.
Earlier, on 16 September, 2017, Toko Yame, a class 12 student of Government Higher Secondary School, Tawang went missing after a clash broke out between two groups of students.
After intensive search operations by the police and relatives of Yame, his semi-decomposed body was found near Biga Bridge waterfall- a location which was thoroughly searched earlier- raising suspicion among many.
